ESL Study Tips and Motivation

In order to learn English quickly and correctly, you have to commit yourself fully to the process of learning a new language.  Fully immersing yourself into the English-speaking world is the best way to learn English quickly, but many people are not able to do this easily.  However, making English-speaking friends, watching English television shows, listening to English radio stations, and reading English newspapers will definitely help.  Try spending at least one hour per day only using English.  Start with watching a popular English language TV show or speaking with an English-speaking friend.  Then increase this time by 15 minutes every week.  This will be difficult at first, but it really is the best way to learn a new language.  Before you know it you’ll find yourself thinking in English and every day it will get easier and easier to communicate in your new language!

Bilingual Celebrities

shakira_fixation1As a student struggling every day to learn a second language, you may find yourself wondering if you will ever become fluent.  It does seem like a long, difficult road, but eventually you will find yourself speaking, reading, listening, writing, and even thinking in English!  This, of course, cannot be achieved without a great deal of studying, practicing, and lots of determination.  Learning a second language can help you with your career, education, travel, self-esteem, and meeting new and interesting people who you might not have gotten to know if you didn’t speak English.  Believe it or not, many celebrities became even more famous after they learned a second language.  For instance, did you know that Celine Dion, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Charlize Theron, Heidi Klum, and Shakira all had to learn English as a second language?  Other celebrities who are native English speakers are also fluent in a second language, such as Johnny Depp, Kobe Bryant, Kelly Clarkson, Sandra Bullock, and William Shatner.
